'Penanggah' for Cousin Marriage

Anuar & Norhaizan arrived at around 12.30pm

Today, my cousin got married (here in Parit 6) with a lovely wife from Pahang, Malaysia. Well, as with other 'Kenduri Kahwin' (Wedding Ceremony), the ceremony was held with the spirit of 'Gotong-Royong' (cooperation among villagers). I arrived quite late (8.25am) to help with what ever job I could help.

'Penanggah' as what we here called, will be responsible to make sure every job is settled - cookery, washing dishes, washing chicken/meat, preparing drinks, and serving guest. Today, I got the chance to do the washing (as usual) and preparing the cooking (black source meat). Sincerely, I felt quite good about myself today (I seldomly do the cooking...).

Some of the villages (kampung) here have abandon 'gotong-royong' for Wedding Ceremony; Instead, they prefer to choose catering service which is very costly! "There's no more youth here to do 'gotong-royong'!" They said. Where are the youth ('Belia' as we call it here)? Some of them are studying, some are working in the city, and some are ... (no comment). I'm publishing this article just to remind myself that there was 'gotong-royong' spirit in 'kampung'; Incase people (or villagers) forgot about the meaning of 'gotong-royong' in the near future!

The best part is that we have the chance to meet 'long lost' relatives (and friends)

Masjid Parit 6 board meeting

Masjid or Mosque is the center for any village in Malaysia, including my kampung Parit 6. Last Tuesday night, a board meeting was held in the Mosque Lobby. Some of the most interesting issue were:

  • al-Quran class for young children will be conducted once a week.
  • consideration of establishing art class - 'kompang'
  • suggestion to establish youth 'marhaban' team

Well that's great because ample room for children and youth to be involve in Masjid activity are given.

In previous time (long-long ago), masjid was the center for people activity. I think it's about time we give the same responsibility to masjid this days.

Promo - Paddy Field Management

http://ipmpadi.blogspot.com/ is a very nice blog on paddy field management and pest control. It's in Malay Language actually... I wonder the author is still 'online' or not.

For those who never had the chance to see paddy field... come to my kampung in Parit 6 Sungai Besar! Oh, by the way... paddy is actually the 'raw' plant for rice. Almost 2/3 of the world population eat rice compare to wheat / bread (I forgot where a got these stats).
